Mehmet Asutay has worked at Durham University’s School of Government and International Affairs (SGIA) since 2005. He is the director of the Durham Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance, which is a joint centre operating between the Durham Business School and the SGIA. Dr Asutay is also programme director for Durham’s masters in Islamic finance and director of the Durham Islamic finance summer school.
He holds a BA and Msc in public finance from the University of Istanbul, a postgraduate diploma in economic and social policy analysis from the University of York, an MA in economics of public policy from the University of Leicester and a PhD in political economics also from the University of Leicester.
Dr Asutay teaches and supervises research on Islamic moral economy; Islamic banking and finance; the Middle Eastern economies and political economy of Middle East including Turkish and Kurdish political economies.
His recent research includes the construction of Islamic moral and political economy and empirical aspects of Islamic banking and finance.
Dr Asutay is managing editor of the Review of Islamic Economics and is an associate editor of the American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences.
