Another day, another opinion poll and mounting evidence that the UK may vote to sever ties with the European Union at next week’s referendum.

With just a week to go, the Leave campaign now has a six point lead over the Remain camp, according to the latest opinion poll from Ipsos Mori on Thursday.

The telephone poll, published by the Evening Standard newspaper, suggests 53 per cent of Britons want to quit the EU and 47 per cent wish to stay. Those statistics don’t include people who are, as yet, undecided.

The pound has continued to fall against a weak dollar today, dropping as low as $1.4120, as investors’ nerves grow over the outcome of next week’s referendum, which has also been highlighted by central banks around the world over the last 24 hours as a potential risk to global growth.

Sterling is down 0.32 per cent on the day at publication time to $1.4157.

Today’s survey marks the first time Leave has come out ahead in the monthly Ipsos Mori telephone poll.
