Omneya Abdelsalam, Aston Business School

Omneya Abdelsalam is the director of the El Shaarani Research Centre for Islamic Business and Finance and the director of the MSc in Islamic Finance at Aston Business School. She holds a PhD in accounting from Heriot-Watt University and a Masters in Islamic accounting) and bachelor degree in accounting from Mansoura University in Egypt.

Her research covers the governance, ethical and corporate social responsibility and financial disclosure of listed companies including banks. Other interests include the risks in Islamic banks compared with conventional banks and accounting and finance in the Middle East and north Africa.

Prof Abdelsalam is a fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and has 26 years of teaching experience in higher education in the UK and internationally. She has been awarded Aston University’s excellence in teaching award in 2005 and Aston Business School’s award for innovation and inspiration in 2009. She is a member of the editorial board and ad hoc reviewer of various academic journals and international conferences. She has published various research papers in international academic journals and has contributed to two books. She teaches courses in both conventional and Islamic accounting.

Prof Abdelsalam organised and chaired four Islamic finance conferences and workshops at Aston Business School between 2009 and 2011.
