Inter shut out

Inter Milan were ordered to play their next six European games behind closed doors and were fined £132,000 following the crowd trouble that caused this week's Champions League quarter-final second leg against city rivals AC Milan to be abandoned.

However, the final two games of the ban are suspended and will come into effect only if Inter fans cause further trouble during the next three years, Uefa, European football's governing body, ruled yesterday.

AC Milan were awarded the tie 5-0 on aggregate and will play PSV Eindhoven in the semi-finals.

* Shahid Afridi equalled the second fastest century in one-day cricket internationals to help Pakistan to a five-wicket victory over India at Kanpur, giving his side a 3-2 lead with one game left in the series.

The 25-year-old opening batsman, who also holds the record for the fastest one-day hundred (37 deliveries), equalled West Indian Brian Lara's 45-ball effort against Bangladesh in 1999. Pakistan made 252 for 5 in 42.1 overs in reply to India's 249 for 6. The final match takes place tomorrow in New Delhi.

* World number one Roger Federer's 25-match winning streak was surprisingly broken in the Monte Carlo Open quarter-finals by French teenager Richard Gasquet. The 18-year-old qualifier gained a 6-7 6-2 7-6 victory against the man who has appeared almost invincible this year, having won five titles.
