Michael Avenatti, the lawyer known for his battles with Donald Trump, will not face felony charges following his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence last week, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office said on Wednesday.

His case has been referred to the City Attorney’s office where he may still face a misdemeanour filing, according to the DA’s office.

Mr Avenatti represents Stormy Daniels in her litigation against Mr Trump and has said he is considering a run for president in 2020 as a Democratic candidate.

“I am thankful that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has rejected filing any charges against me after a fair, careful and thorough investigation. I have maintained my innocence since the moment of my arrest,” he said.
