The finalists’ proposed books would address crucial challenges of growth, including how to tackle catastrophe risk, when to quit a job, a market or a project, and China’s growing investments in Africa.

The finalists are:

Christopher Clearfield and András Tilcsik for Rethinking the Unthinkable: Managing the Risk of Catastrophic Failure in the Twenty-First Century.

Jonathan Hillman for The Fog of More.

Irene Yuan Sun for Brave Old World: Why China’s Investments in Africa Should Make Us Rethink Economic Development.

A panel of expert judges selected the three proposals from a shortlist of 11 entries, drawn from the range of titles submitted for this year’s £15,000 prize, which is open to authors aged under 35.

The winner will be announced on November 17 at a dinner in New York where the Financial Times and McKinsey will also name the Business Book of the Year.
