Oliver Barnes is the FT’s US pharmaceutical and biotech correspondent based in New York, writing about scientific innovation, blockbuster drugs and access to healthcare in the world’s biggest economy. Oliver previously covered gambling, tobacco and hospitality companies as the FT’s leisure industries correspondent. He was nominated for a British Journalism Award for travel article of the year alongside colleagues for a features piece on extreme tourism.
His first role at the FT was covering health policy and science for the FT. He was awarded a journalism prize by the Royal Statistical Society for his coverage of the pandemic. Before joining the FT, Oliver worked for BBC News, writing articles for Reality Check, a BBC fact-checking service, and reporting for TV and radio outlets including the News at Six, Radio 4 and the World Service.
