Jackie Collins (1937-2015) was the author of 32 racy novels, often set in Hollywood and featuring the affairs of the rich and the attractive. She spent some of the proceeds from selling over 500m books on watches and jewellery, which are being sold as part of her estate at Bonhams auction houses in Los Angeles on May 16-17.

Lots include a diamond and platinum ring (estimate: $100,000-$150,000), an Art Deco diamond, emerald, stone and platinum necklace (estimate: $40,000-$60,000), signed pieces by Cartier and watches by Patek Philippe, Harry Winston, Chanel and Chopard.

“Her jewellery defined her style, and she had a piece for every occasion, punctuating her outfits with a splash of colour or a glint of sparkle,” says Rory Green, Collins’ youngest daughter. “She loved to design jewellery and would incorporate different pieces to create something new and special. One of her most beloved pieces was the emerald and diamond necklace which she created from Art Deco clips — it was the epitome of glamour and elegance.”

Harvey Cammell, deputy chairman of Bonhams, says the ring with a 6ct diamond is “a standout piece” and was “something that one perhaps would imagine one of her heroines in a novel wearing”.

The proceeds from certain lots in the auction, which also includes the contents of her Beverly Hills house, will go toward charities supporting young women.
