The University of Virginia Darden School of Business launches another six-week Mooc (massive open online course) – The Foundations of Business Strategy – through Coursera, the web-based system created by two Stanford computer scientists.

Become a Scottish entrepreneur

This year’s cohort of Saltire Fellows enrol on the elite eight-month programme, which includes three months of study at Babson College in Boston and a placement within a growing Scottish company. The programme aims to develop entrepreneurial skills for the transformation of Scottish companies into global leaders.

Learn about sustainability

The World Association for Sustainable Development global forum hosts a three-day conference in London. Topics for discussion include city planning, management approaches and connecting data to decision making. Keynote speakers include Aidan Berry, dean of Brighton Business School and chief examiner for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and Mohammed Tahir Alia, governor of the Red Sea State, Sudan.

Leeds University Business School in the UK is hosting an open day and invites prospective students to meet their MBA admissions team and find out more about their full-time MBA and executive MBA programmes. The day includes a taster lecture led by a senior academic.

Become a collaborative networker

Cardiff Business School sponsors a free networking event aimed at small businesses in Wales. Organisations represented include Network Rail, Costain and Capita, which want to encourage more small companies to collaborate in the supply network.

The MIT Sloan School of Management invites prospective students to participate in an MBA online chat between 21.00 and 22.000 EDT. The chat will feature members of the school’s MBA admissions committee, answering questions about the programme and student life.

Learn how to raise money using crowdfunding

The University of Edinburgh Business School is looking at how, when and why to use crowdfunding through an event featuring Amanda Boyle, founder of Bloom Venture Catalyst, a platform that provides alternative access to funding for start-up businesses, community projects and social enterprises. She will talk about how crowdfunding can be used as a promotional tool.

Learn how to grow your business

The Lancaster University Management School Institute for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development hosts a masterclass on the barriers to business growth and how to develop a shared understanding of culture and use of networks. Ian Gordon, entrepreneur in residence at the school, will teach the class.

Take part in a research competition

The Edith Cowan University Faculty of Business and Law in Australia decides on the winner of its research communication competition. Higher Degree by Research candidates have three minutes to explain their research and its significance to a non-specialist audience. The event is part of ECU’s Research Week 2013.

Alumni event: Monaco

City University Cass Business School in the UK decamps to Monaco to host its third annual European alumni gathering. The event will bring Cass alumni, academics and guests from the Monaco business community together to discuss what the city can learn from the luxury markets and enjoy a champagne reception with Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Cass alumnus and founder of easyJet.

Alumni event: Hong Kong

The Harvard Business School Association of Hong Kong holds its annual general meeting. Chaired by Antony Leung, the senior managing director of the Blackstone Group and a graduate of the Harvard executive programme for advanced managers, the meeting will focus on macroeconomic outlook, China and private equity.
